Today we ran 11 kilometres from Hardwick Bay along the coast all the way to Wambana. My time in this run was ninety two minutes. It was pouring today so everything was soaked, we rode on the buses to Hardwick Bay and we got off there and went to the beach where we warmed up, the warm up really didn't do much as we were all still cold. We started running exactly at 7.25 am it was hard to run in the sand, so I devised a plan to run on the shells and rocks near the edge of the water. I also decided to break the run into different sections and set myself short term goals. I decided to run 3.4 kilometres flat out and then break for about 500 metres then run slash jog all the way to the 5.5 kilometre mark then break for 500 metres again and run to the end of the pony trail and walk 30 metres and sprint the rest of the way in. It was really hard until the 3.4 kilometre mark as I hadn't found my steady state. Then when I started to run again it felt a lot easier as I got into my steady state really quickly. I did however feel a massive pain in my legs and back as I was constantly using my legs and back because I pushing myself to the limits.
Bill Song and myself were running along with each other and we pushed each other along, then when we got to the pony trail, I ran a little faster and I decided to finish in front of Bill, but Paul came along in the support vehicle and I sprinted off ahead as I wanted to finish before him and he almost ran me over, but I just kept on sprinting to beat him to the end. It felt really good when I reached the end as I knew that I had just run 11 kilometres and that all the training and hard work we had done over the fitness program payed off and we managed to do what we thought was the most difficult thing in the world. We estimated time for this run the previous day and Dale also made a prediction on how fast we would do, my estimate was ninety minutes and Dale's estimate was eighty five minutes, but because of the weather conditions we all did a little slower than expected. So Dale is cutting our time down by two minutes I my prediction was exactly correct.
Yesterday Dale explained to us about the rewards that we would if the boys who challenged him beat him and the consequences we would get if they lost. The reward was that we were allowed to buy things at the BP when we stopped along the way. If one person beat him then we were allowed two items, if two people beat him then we were allowed three items, it three people beat him then we were allowed five items and if all four of them beat him we were allowed ten items, sadly only one person beat him so we are only allowed two items, but I am still happy with that. Dale also explained how this run was like our life, the first part of the run was school and university then, the second part is when we are starting our jobs, the third part is when we are senior people in our jobs and the final part of the run is when we are retiring. It is meant to show us how we can overcome any challenges we face throughout life. This run was also meant to show us that we can do anything if we set our minds to it and try our very best.

Welcome to my Wambana Blog
Living in our Wardlis has been a great challenge as we have to look after ourselves and the whole wardli. The things we have to do include cooking, washing up, setting up the bed, drying out the clothes and cleaning the Wardli till it’s spotless. Below is a picture of our Wardli which we are living in and looking after.
Wardli is the indigenous meaning for dwelling, that is why they are called that and it also sounds interesting. Our Wardli has a dining/lounge area where we hang out, next to that is our kitchen where we all take turns cooking, then the laundry where we wash and dry our clothes, then there are the two bathrooms which is then followed by three bedrooms where two boys stay in each. Outside is our verandah, in front of that is our little garden and behind our Wardli is our clothes lines.
Cycle Tour
Day 1 Monday 6th February 2012
Day 2 Tuesday 7th February 2012
Day 3 Wednesday 8thFebruary 2012
Wednesday was the day where we got lots of working as most of the track was full of hills. We rode around the whole Innes National Park. The challenge was probably the hardest thing we did as we had to ride almost three quarters of the day back in the gears two and eight. It was excruciatingly painful up the hills and easy cursing down them. Then there was this massive hill where I stacked it and the gears changed without my knowing. When we started riding we rode up the steepest hill in the Yorke Peninsula which led to this beautiful 360 degree lookout and then going down the hill was really fun as you built up heaps of speed because it was so steep. Then we kept riding for a bit more but we let the slow people go in front so we could all reach at around the same time at dolphin bay. When we reached dolphin bay we were allowed to go for a swim if we finished our letters, I was one of the first finished but I did not want to swim because some of the boys who were finished before me and had gone in had said it was really cold. Then we rode the same way back to the buses which we packed up and then we set of back to Wambana even though it felt hard it felt really rewarding.
Day 4 Thursday 9th February 2012
The last day of the cycle tour felt extremely hard because we rode mostly the whole way on gravel so we felt very horrible because of the corrugations. Anyway we started riding at a rode just of Sunbury and we rode to suicide point where we had our lunch it was called suicide point because a young boy around the age of 20 got a massive fish on his and he refused to let it go, so he was pulled in to his watery grave. Then we rode to the Trou Bridge lighthouse where we took some amazing photos of it and kangaroo island. Then we rode through a wind farm with our leadership partner (Andrew Fleming was my partner), so that we could teach about each other for the excuse me gentlemen program. We finished at Edithburgh where we went on a compulsory swim in a small tidal pool, it felt great as we were refreshed and cool. We were so relieved when got out and got back in the bus to know there was no more riding to be done, but we felt really pleased with each other as we just rode around 180 kilometres to finish the whole trip.
Fitness Program
Friday 10th February 2012
The training session was a 3.4 kilometre run from the tunnel to the sacred rock and then back again. The run took me 24.10 minutes. We went out from the tunnel at exactly 7 o'clock, and we went out on the run along the north to north eastern walking trail. I was fourth slowest, I though I did well for the physical status I was in but later I hoped to get better as we would have to run 11 kilometres. My body was really hurting as I had never more than 3 kilometres before, but I overcame the pain by focusing on something I wanted to do in the future. I made myself persist by setting running goals such as run to the largest pine tree and then walk for 25 steps then run again. When I run this session again I will set further goals, but not too far so I can reach them.
Saturday 11th February 2012
The training session was a 5.5 kilometre from the tunnel to the jetty and back again. The run took me 35.13 minutes. We left the tunnel at exactly 7 o'clock again and we ran along the walking path until the sacred rocks and then we kept going up onto the road until the jetty where we hit the power at the end then we ran back. On the way back Dale ran with Luke and myself we only stopped twice the whole way back and each time we only walked 25 steps the final 300 metres Dale made Luke and myself sprint the rest I was able to sprint ahead of them so I beat Luke by around 12 seconds. My body really hurt as we sprinted and jogged almost the whole way so we hoped that it was worth it.
Sunday 12th February 2012
I was leader today with Andrew Flemming, we ran to the mall at around 7 am in the moring to collect the paper, then when we came back we realised we had not posted the letters so we had to run to the mall again to post them. So in return we ran 4 kilometres, and then when we returened we still had to do things like news of the day, willy wheather and excuse me gentlemen. It was hard sprinting 2 kilometres flat out as we were going to be late otherwise. Next time I am leader I will make sure that we take the letters first so we don't have to run again.
Monday 13th February 2012
The traning session was a run to the pony club which was a 3.8 kilometre run. It was on sand as well so we took a little longer, my time was 30.41 minutes. We left the gate at exactly 7 am but this time we ran left and into sand for almost the whole way it was soft sand so we all struggled running so we mostly jogged or walked. We went all the way to the pony club gate hit it and then turned around and ran back but on the way back we were allowed to run on the beach where the hard sand is. My body felt agganisingly painful as we had to run through thick sand which didn't give us much rebound. I think Dale's technique of thinking of something else is really effective.
Tuesday 14th February 2012
The training session was a game today, it was a game of galic football between wardli 2 and 4 playing against wardli 3 and 5. We were ahead by quite a bit then we lost a lot of goals when the rule that everbody had to over the halfway line to be counted otherwise for the other team. It was really annoying as we lost many goals becuase most of the people were slow. It also hurts when someone smashes the ball straight into your knees and accidently knees you in the thigh. I really wish we could have played soccer as it is a much better sport.
Wednesday 15th February 2012
The training session today was our second 5.5 kilometre run, my time was 35 minutes a whole 13 seconds faster. This felt like a whole minute for me, I felt tired but I think I could have done more if I pushed myself harder. I did force myslef to run the whole time to the sacred stones, then I walked as I felt really tired. Running on the jetty is really hard as if you misplace your footing you will fall and lose time. I am trying to run or jog the whole way to the end and back without stopping.
Thursday 16th February 2012
The training session today was a game, we played two games today they were galic football and soccer. For the first half of the time and then we played soccer. We still lost the game by one point because of the rule where everybody has to be over the halfway line. I think we did better in the second half of the period as most of the soccer player were on my team and most of the football player were on the other team. I still wished we could have just played soccer alone as it so much better.
Friday 17th February 2012
The training session today was a 9.4 kilometre run, but we were allowed a choice between the 9.4 and the 7.2 kilometre runs. I dicided to choose the 7.2 kilometre run as in the other one you had to run 5.5 non stop. We ran from the tunnel along the beach all the way to Flaherty's corner and back. I struggled running as it was fully sand but only the first quater or so is thick which is where I struggled, I did try really hard though and I beat 9 people back and I think that is an achievement, however I think I can do even better by the time we ge to the 11 kilometre run.
Saturday 18th February 2012
Today was a fitness session we did different types of excersices to improve our agility, speed and performance and in the process we were able to win points for the wambana challenge. My wardli number 5 won 2 points during the excersices, the ones we won were the bean pocket one and the goal post ones. It was rather hard as we had to be quick and agile on our feet but also e attentive. Then we played a game of dodgeball and we lost miserably as we weren't quick enough and we didn't sverve enough.
Sunday 19th February 2012
The training session today was a 3.4 kilometre run and it was a rather difficult one as I had recently run a 7.2 kilometre run so my joints we still aching but I think I posted a resonable time beacuse I beat my old time by a minute as it was 23.10. I ran all the way to the sacred rocks and on the way back I got a massive stich but I kept jopgging really slowly the whole way back so by the end I collapsed as I broke out into a sprint in the last 100 metres or so. I think by the next time we do the run I can do it even better as I will be more fit.
Monday 20th February
The training session today was a 5.5 kilometre run and it was also hard, but this time it felt easier running all the way to the rocks and I didn't feel as tired, my time was worse this time than my previuos one but I felt as though I ran more this time, so maybe I made a miscalculation and my time was 36.15. I think I can probably push my self even harder and be back even faster, but I did not get any streching time so that might have affected my time I don't know, but I will try to beat my previous record the next ime we run.
Tuesday 21st February 2012
The training session today was a strength session. We did chin ups for the whole session, we practised doing them by ourselves. I struggled to reach the bar but after I got hold I could do a few in a row then my arms really hurt, we worked our biceps and triceps. We also had a competition of who canhold on the bar for as long as possible and I got 15 seconds. We were then allowed to do chin ups from side to side. It was hard but that was probably the most fun.
Wednesday 22nd February 2012
The training session today was a power session. We did sprints today, it was really tough as it we used muscles that we usually don't use. I personally like the excerise where we were on a boat and we had to run to the bow, stern, port or starburd depending on which was called out. If you were one of the last five to arrive at the spot or you went to the wrong spot you had to do five push ups. Then the boat started to turn and we had to adjust according to which way it went, I never had to do any push ups as I was always alert.
Thursday 23rd February 2012
The training session today was a game, we played a game of galic football. The teams were made from the birthdays so it was green bibs vs blue bibs I was on the blue bib team at the end we ended up wining 15 to 1. I really helped as I was playing in defence and I stopped people getting close enough to take a shot at goals and I also played up forward and scored a goal it counted as 3 though so it was awesome.
Friday 24th February 2012
The training session today was 3.4 kilometre run, I did the run in 24 minutes it felt pretty good as I was just over my previous time and I didn't feel puffed even though I ran/jogged all the to the rocks and back. I think can push myself further and do the run in an even faster time. My body didn't really hurt as my bodies fitness has imroved and increassed in such a short time. I want to run the all the way to the rocks the next time we do the 3.4 kilometre run and then jog the rest of the way back.
Saturday 25th February 2012
I was leader today so I went to the mall in the morning and collected the newspaper and posted the letters. Andrew Flemming and myself returned with plenty of time left and so we wrote all the news up on the board. The boys were still playing their gaem so joined in and helped out the boys in my wardli who were playing soccer. I however wish that I didn't as I hadn't streched or warmed up before it so I felt cramps and pain immideatly. It really hurt but it was great to hear that I helped my team win.
Sunday 26th February 2012
We ran a 3.4 kilometre run today and I ran it in 24.12 minutes. It felt pretty good doing it again and the best part was that I didn't stop this whole time, that is why I was a little bit slower, but I think I it was a lot better time as I became fitter by not stopping. Since I didn't stop my body felt a major lack of oxygen so it hurt a lot but I think I did the right thing and it seems to have paid off. I managed to sprint the last 300 metres or so it felt hard as I tried to keep Jordo behind me and I actually managed to do it.
Monday 27th February 2012
Today we ran 5.5 kilometres and I ran it in 38.12 minutes that was my slowest time. I think it was because there was nobody to compete against as I was running by myself almost the whole. However near the end Yu Xing and myself ran together and pushed ourselves along and we pretty much sprinted from the sacred back to wambana on the 11 kilometre run I think I should run next to someone so we keep pushing ourselves all the way and not give up.
Tuesday 28th February 2012
Today's fitness session was a beach walk. We walked upto the bit of track that drops down to the beach, near the pony club we stopped there and Dale explained about the 11 kilometre run, then we were allowed to chose to walk along the beach or walk back along the pony trail. It is really scary knowing that we have to run 11 kilometres tomorrow and we have to try our hardest and run our heart out. I am really going to give it my all and I really want to get under one hour and 20 minutes, that is my goal.

Hardwick Bay Revegetation Project
Weeds are bad for the environment because they can spread their seeds really quickly and they are very hard to kill as even when they are out of the soil they can survive and sprout. Three weeds that we learnt about were Lincoln weeds, wheat and box thorn.
Humans eat weeds such as wheat, and pooh the seeds out which spread, they also keep certain weeds in their garden because it looks good but it can spread really easily. When they are out in the rural areas they can spread easily and affect natural vegetation.
Weeds are spread through wind, weather conditions, bird droppings and other animals, human clothes and shoes, tourists and shipping containers. These are the most common ways they are spread there are other ones such as people keeping them in gardens.
Weeds are not the same all over Australia as they are adapted to certain types of weather conditions. Such as the cousin to the Aloe Vera gel is adapted to survive in the rural and desert area. If they were the same all over Australia it would have to be a super weed which survives in all temperature and climates.
The weeds which are adapted to the heat will survive where as the native Australian plants will die off as they are adapted to survive in the cool and humid climates, such as in the peninsulas and bays. So it will definitely add to the weed problem around the world. They will slowly spread across Australia and take over the native plants place.
People are aware of the dangers that the weeds poses to the local vegetation in public reserves and areas. That is why they want to help weed and plant native plants. People also want to protect the local wildlife from foreign species of plants. They can also harm people because they maybe allergic to that new type of plant because they have not been introduced and built up immunity against it.
Things that we can do to help the environment include keeping weeds in contained areas. We should not keep weeds as they harm the environment, if we do keep them we must maintain by doing weeding and spraying weedicides.

Hobbsy's History Tour
Friday the 17th of February was the day my group went on the History tour with Dale Hobbs, we went to three local historical places of interest. They were the Warooka museum, the Brentwood cemetery, and the final place we visited was the Sandalwood Park.
The Warooka museum was a very interesting place to visit as it was set up by volunteers and donated goods. Before we entered the museum Hobbsy gave us some background information about the place such as the building was actually house where the trooper lived and other interesting info like that. The three most interesting things I learnt were about the trooper, the whalers and about the calvary.
The trooper was a person who worked for the British army; they were usually privates who were looking for a promotion. The trooper use to carry around a baton but later on they got single barrel shotguns. They wore woollen cloths all throughout the year to distinguish themselves from the general public. The trooper was responsible for law and order for the local district they lived in, they would work there for about three years and then they would be moved or promoted.
Whalers were a breed of horse which was bred for all round purposes, such as travelling long distances, all day work and tough manual work. They were mainly used for farming but when World War 1 started they were the main horses taken, they were used in the calvary because of their characteristics. They were bred from a stallion, a mare, three fellies and one cult; they were picked up from South Africa and brought over on the first convoy. When the later convoys came they brought more horses and they were let to mix with the first ones so a new breed was formed and since the first state they landed was in New South Whales so they were named Whalers.
The calvary were trained to fight on horseback, they fight using a sword called a saber, it has a knucle buster on the holder so they can punch people who were right nexxt to them, and along the sword there was air channels so that the sword was easy to retract out of someone after they had been stabbed. They also carried a single barrel shotugun, but they didn't prefer using them as they had no way of controlling the whalers they were ridding on.
The second place we visited was the Brentwood cemetry, it was an odd place to have a cemtetry as it was surrounded by thick shurb, but there were three main reasons it was located there, the first one was the location was located near the centre of the district, the second one was that it was in a rural area so it was nice and quiet as not many people know it is there, the third reason was the soil in the area it was a soft clayey soil which was easy to dig. Two of the epitares that impressed me were ' Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see god'. and the second one is 'In sadness we watched her lingering breath till she lay like a lily sp lovely in death.
The final place we visited was Sandalwood Park, the ark had heaps of interesting things that people used and had in the early ages. Some of the things I learnt were that the wagons they had were pulled 6 horses so the person driving had to hold 12 leather reins. A sulki was pulled by one horse and was used to go to chruch. The King famly built walls to stop dingo's getting to livestock. The stable's housed horses and the person who was caring also lived with them. The blacksmith worked behind the stables with all the tools. The butchery is behind the stables, meat hung on the hooks here and then it is taken to the smokroom. Plaster was made from horse hair and limestone solution. They locked their servants ina little out housse. They had a massive smokeroom where meat was cut and cured. Tiled toiltes indicated it belonged to the owner.
